Well, I guess I got lucky and got a good one...I absolutely LOVE this laptop! Beautiful design, amazing touch pad, great speakers, fabulous hardware setup, no problems so far....for the price, I'm amazed. No headphone/mic problems with mine. I hope everyone else can get their issues fixed, because when this machine is running right, it's beautiful!

Piece of garbage - Linda Lennon -
Please don't buy, you will not be satisfied. I have bought HP products for years, but I have had trouble with the last two laptops from them. This one being the worse. I have had trouble from the first month I've had it. It would not power up, took it back to the store and they took the battery out and put it back in and said they didn't see anything wrong with it.(like we're nuts) Then it happened again so we called HP support and they wanted us to take the computer apart to get to the hard drive, I finally told them that was not my job but it was theirs, they finally let me send it back to HP and it was returned 10 days later as being repaired. Not so fast, still doing the same thing only this time I am getting an over heating warning and it completely shutting down. And yes it still goes dark. Hp is fast becoming the Toyota of computers. My suggestion is to buy another brand not associated with HP. That is what I am going to do if I can ever get out of this mess. I have only had this since Nov. 2009 and should not be having problems with it, but even more that that Hp should be willing to let us trade them in, but they are not willing to work with you. Getting ready to send it back again and I'm sure I will be sending again and again in the future!!!

Annoying Power Issues - TheLion - Woodridge, IL
My friend received this laptop as a gift. She's brought it to me twice already with the same issue. The laptop does not power on - even when plugged into the AC outlet. I unplug it, remove the battery and then us the AC plug without the battery and it's fine. Then I shut down, put the battery back in and reboot and again it's fine. This problem apparently impacts all G60 models as there were a lot of hits when I googled the issue ("HP laptop won't turn on G60" was the text I googled if you want to read for yourself). This seems to be a very nice laptop, but if you have to keep removing and replacing the battery then it's a complete waste (unless you like to be annoyed).
I'm not sure what the issue is but if it were my laptop, it would be returned. I can't believe HP would put these out, IMO they should recall them or at least replace the battery (if that is what is at fault). Buy something else and save yourself the aggravation.

Power Problems - Screen Glare - Buckeye_Knight - Massillon, Ohio
I purchased the HP G60-535DX notebook (laptop) PC in November 2009. About every 1-2 weeks, it has a power problem, where the notebook will not turn on, with or without a battery, with or without an AC adapter connected. We know there is power because of a light where the AC adapter connects. I contacted HP support. They said it is a static build up problem on the motherboard. To resolve (temporarily), you have to eject the battery and disconnect the AC power. Then press and hold the power button for about 30 seconds. Then put the battery back in. It turns on. HP did not have a resolution, but to return it for repair. Not bad enough for me to do that. I can see on the web that other people are having the same problem. One person returned several times, and all had the same problem. So this is my only major problem with this notebook PC so far.
It is nice, as it has a full keyboard with numeric keypad, 3GB ram, 320 GB hard drive, and Windows 7 Home Premium. It also has Altec Lansing stereo speakers and a smooth touch pad.
My only other (minor) gripe about this notebook is that the screen is glossy, so has a glare. I don't care for the glare, but it is tolerable most of the time.
Overall, I like this notebook PC. I have had it for 6 months now, and plan to keep it. But if I had the choice, with the power problem, I would get another model instead.
